Books VS. Experience

Hello There!

Books give us theoretical & instructive knowledge, and experience give us practical & firsthand knowledge.

Often, lessons we learn from books are faster and easier forgotten than lessons we learn from experience.

(a) What we learn from books cannot be learned from experience:

1. When we want to know what World War I is like. We must read books.
2. When we would like to know what our world (earth) will be like in 2050. We must read books.
3. When we would like to eat all the best world foods. We must read our world recipes (books), and do the cooking.
4. We in our lifetime cannot experience everything, so we need to read books.

(b) What we learn from experience cannot be learned from books:

1. Swimming, hockey, riding a horse, acting on stage must be learn from practical & firsthand experience.
2. If we want to broaden our horizons. Then we need to travel.
3. School trips give children firsthand experience not available in the classroom.
4. What exactly our earth looks like from seeing from the moon. Then we need to go to the moon.
5. Not everything is contained in books, so we need to learn from practical & firsthand experience.

(c) For some professions, both books and practical experience are equally important:

1. In order to do well in teaching, teachers need both books knowledge and practical experience.
2. All doctors need knowledge from both books and practical experience.

My conclusion is it would be better and more enjoyable to learn from a combination of books and experience. The more knowledge we gain, the wiser and more colorful our lives will be!

“Books are man's best friend.”

“Experience is the best teacher.”

“And the more we learn, the better we realize our ignorance.”
